Default Yellow wildflower in bloom around Folsom Lake

Sorry for the lack of a photo....

There is a yellow wildflower blooming in profusion now in the Folsom State Recreational Area (near Douglas Blvd/Beeks Bight), and I'm hoping one of you can ID it, since it seems to be the only wildflower blooming in that area this month, at least as far as I have seen.

This wildflower has about a dozen yellow petals, many stamens, and most of the plants are 1'-2' high, although I've seen a few that are significantly taller.

My best guess, based on perusing the Peterson Pacific States guide, is that it is Birdfoot Buttercup, although I'm not sure if that wildflower grows this far south.

I apologize if I am being vague; I'm not experienced at wildflower ID.

Thanks for any tips.
