Default SENIOR BIOLOGIST (Santa Clara Valley Water District) - San Jose, CA

$9,301.07 - $11,911.47 Monthly

Senior Biologist is a key position in the Environmental Mitigation and Monitoring Unit that will perform the duties of a senior-level ecologist. This position will be responsible for managing long-term mitigation monitoring programs; assist with management of Safe Clean Water Programs; perform land management for District mitigation wetlands; and provide ecological subject matter expertise and support to capital and long-range planning programs.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Coordinate and manage monitoring activities and reporting for the District's large mitigation monitoring programs.
Land management, coordination of monitoring and maintenance activities for the District's mitigation wetlands.
Assist with managing the Unit's Safe, Clean Water and Natural Flood Protection Program Project D2 and its partnerships.
Provide biological and habitat restoration expertise in support of large scale planning efforts, various capital and infrastructure projects.
Provide expert advice and assistance regarding environmental regulations, permits, biological impact assessment, mitigation, monitoring programs, and habitat assessments.
Technical oversight and support for Assistant and Associate Biologists in the Unit, including: coordinating and conducting various surveys, data collection and monitoring efforts, and QA/QC of staff and consultant work products.
Effectively communicate the status of projects to management, the Board, resource agencies, external partners, stakeholders, and the public.

Seven (7) years of experience performing professional-level responsibilities as a biologist involving a significant amount of field work.

Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in biology, ecology, botany, zoology, wildlife, fisheries ecology or a related discipline in a life sciences field. A Master's degree in biology, ecology, botany, zoology, or a related discipline in a life sciences field from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of experience.
